Community Open Floor Dance Classes

April 13, 2021 @ 9:45 am - 11:45 am

Community Events and Classes at mana Retreat Centre

NEW CLASS TIME: 9:45am – 11:45am Tuesdays. A reminder that we have decided to shift the starting time to 9:45am to allow more space for setting up and for people who are travelling to get there on time.  It is always a nice feeling to have everyone arrived and ready to start on time.

NEW CLASS PRICE: BEGINNING APRIL.  With much hesitation we have decided that we need to raise the price of our classes to $18 per class cash at the door. This feels like a fair energy exchange for a two-hour class and also helps us cover the cost of venue hire. We are so fortunate to have such beautiful places to dance!

Looking forward to dancing with you all again
with dancing love,

Lisa & Pippa (& Jacqui)

WHAT is OPEN FLOOR MOVEMENT PRACTICE?

Open Floor is a lively dance and movement practice that energises the body and opens the mind.

There are no moves to learn. We simply show up and move with whatever is present: our creative minds, our tender hearts, our joys and excitements, our aches and pains. And in the process we discover our own unique dance.
Classes include guided inquiry as well as time to follow your own dance. The teachers select diverse music to inspire creative expression, wild abandon and quiet awareness. Sometimes we experience insights and healing, and sometimes we simply have a great dance.
The open dance floor becomes a playground for exploring the relational nature of being human: our ever-changing needs for solitude, connection and a sense of community. We learn life skills that serve us on and off the dance floor, helping us to develop a flexibility and resilience that enables us to respond creatively to life.

No experience is required.

The invitation is to come just as you are.

INTRODUCING THE TEACHERS

Lisa Corston

QUALIFIED OPEN FLOOR TEACHER (ICMTA)

My Dance and Art practices are breath to me. Enlivening and enriching, they provide wild exciting sustenance for my experience of being alive.

I love pushing and stretching the boundaries of who I am, expanding my movement vocabulary as I articulate and express myself and inner world with more clarity.  Through this dance practice I feel more at home within my own skin, a stonger sense of steadiness as I meet lifes constantly changing terrain, and I find myself smiling so much more, both outwardly and inwardly. I love the extraordinary friendships that have been born from connections on the dance floor and through the wider dance community, through these connections has come a nurturing sense of belonging.

“Dancing is my passion, the process is my life”

Dancing feels like the most natural thing for my body to do. The movement requires no study, no skill, it is simply pure joy in moving my body.

Finding myself at my first 5Rhythms class taught by Geordie Jahner in 2008 was like coming home. I knew straight away that I had found ‘it’! I had found my soul’s way to express itself fully and completely. With no limits and no judgement…it was pure joy! During that first class I also had a sense that sharing and teaching conscious dance was something I would do. When the Open Floor Dance teacher training was brought to New Zealand I jumped in excited about what I would learn, excited at what I would learn about myself during that journey, and how it would enable me to share the joy of dance with others. I have been teaching Open Floor Dance on the Coromandel Peninsula since 2016. I have also taught Open Floor within a variety of Workshops around New Zealand and at the International Yoga Festival.
