Apply Within for Wellbeing with Kate McEwen
October 18 @ 4:00 pm - October 23 @ 11:30 am
The Apply Within for Wellbeing Retreat is a 5-day residential retreat facilitated by Kate McEwen. The course is yoga-inspired, soul-nourishing, mind-calming, and heart-opening. Through yoga, meditation, and psychotherapy techniques you will be guided on an investigative journey of self-inquiry, to discover patterns, appreciate strengths and work towards living authentically.
What is Apply Within for Wellbeing retreat all about?
This annual 5- day retreat is like a discovery, de-clutter and tidy-up for the mind and soul. When we apply within, we make a conscious choice to self-enquire and to ask ourselves what am I feeling? And we examine what might be contributing to those feelings and the actions that we take as a result. I support participants to play and experiment with many different evidence-based techniques and practices that I have utilised and developed over many years. The retreat is a way to step back from our busy lives and to focus on us. Our inner dreams and desires as well as what may be getting in the way for us or what might not be working as well as it could.
What is included in the retreat?
All kinds of lovely and fun things! We move, sing, meditate, enquire, journal. We experiment with practices to see what suits us at this time, in this place. There is talk, laugher, and silence. There is time for group connection and time for solitude. There is time for mindful walking on the beautiful Mana property and exploring all that Mana offers. The work that we do within is supported by the nurturing environment.
Limited to 18 participants. Places fill early! Book now to ensure your participation in this rejuvenating retreat.
The Teaching Team
Kate is an Australian country girl at heart. She grew up on a farm, headed to the city for university, and then returned to the country as a preschool teacher. That was 35 years ago and her journey since then has encompassed much more learning in a number of avenues. I am qualified in massage therapy, yoga, counselling, NLP, meditation, and positive psychology as well as the education of both children and adults.
An interview with Kate McEwen about the importance of self-inquiry and “applying within”.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your work.
I am fascinated with learning all I can about life – both the world in which we live and the world within us. I love to explore what makes us who we are and our part in the unfolding of life. And I love to support others in this journey. I teach classes, workshops, and retreats on all kinds of topics, but at the basis of them, all lie the questions: Who am I? And how can I express my unique self?
What is self-inquiry and why is it important?
Self-inquiry in its simplest form is checking-in with ourselves – pausing and asking ourselves ‘What am I feeling right now?” and then listening non-judgementally to the answer. It is important because without self-awareness we go about our day in a habitual way, doing the same old things in the same old ways and getting the same old results. That’s fine if the results are uplifting and self-affirming, but often, the results are less than desirable and may be causing anxiety or dis-satisfaction or unhappiness. Self-inquiry gives us an opportunity to become aware. And once we have awareness we are in a better position to make a different choice as to where to go or what to do next.
It sounds easy, but self-inquiry can take us into our dark or uncomfortable places. It takes courage to ask, and courage to answer honestly. And then it takes self-compassion to accept the answer and to recognise a need to change. So, I support people to be courageous in their enquiry and in what follows. Buddhist teacher Pema Chodron says that with gentleness and a sense of humour we can learn to stay. To me this means to stay with our discomfort, our honesty, and to be kind to ourselves in accepting how things are, how we are, and to create movement in a new direction. And that it doesn’t need to be all doom and gloom – we can keep our sense of humour in it all!
Who comes to the retreat?
All women who are seeking self-knowledge come to the retreat. Whether your self-inquiry is small or big, and regardless of whether or not you have done this kind of thing before, all are welcome.
Previous participants have expressed how much lighter they feel at the end of the retreat and how much more joyful or accepting or peaceful. There is a kindling of our inner light that occurs on this retreat and this is often accompanied by clarity of thinking, vision, and deep peace.
I have facilitated retreats at Mana since 2008. Many participants return year after year and find new aspects of themselves. The retreat is a place of safety, growth, and self-learning that lifts us up and helps us to access our inner wisdom.
If you feel there are parts of you that are yet to emerge, please join us, and apply within for self-discovery, peace, joy, and wellbeing.
