Queen’s Birthday Yoga Retreat with Susan Allen
June 2, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - June 6, 2022 @ 2:00 pm
Give yourself a gift, an immersion retreat just for yourself!
This yoga retreat offers 5 days of yoga, meditation and mindfulness practice, both indoors and in the beautiful open spaces this centre offers. An opportunity to energise your connection with nature, to find a sense of equilibrium and poise on your own ground.
The retreat is hosted by one of NZ’s most experienced yoga and meditation teachers, Susan Allen.
We offer an authentic yoga and meditation practice that has a creative, thoughtful and intelligent approach.
The retreat centre of Mana is set on 350acres of land on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula. Native bush covers the land in a blanket of quiet calm. Little bush trails trace their way between the accommodations and the different buildings on the property. The trails and the birdsong will lead you on a little adventure up to the mountain summit where a large crystal embedded in the rock looks out to the islands beyond. The feeling is at the same time of space as well as of being held.
The sanctuary, the crowning glory of Mana, is a temple that stands at the top of the mountain. Built by the founders of Mana many years ago this space is available for you to enjoy anytime. A moonlight visit to the sanctuary is a journey to remember. The octagon is our main practice room. Warmed by an abundant fireplace this spacious room also looks out over the islands. Being a dedicated practice space it holds the energy and steadiness that supports our practice.
Mana has a very extensive organic garden that provides the nutritious and delicious food that Mana is famous for.You will really know what cooked with love means after tasting this fare. All dietary needs catered for.
There is a very cool bush bath nestled amongst the native bush; participants can also treat themselves to the sauna as well as book in for a massage with a wide range of massage and healing therapists.
Meet your Instructor
Susan currently runs Yoga Ground, a yoga and meditation studio in Wanaka, NZ.
Susan has been teaching yoga and meditation for the last 20 years. Following a career in Mechanical Engineering Susan came across the practice of yoga while travelling in India in 1999. Like many before her she felt a strong attraction to this transformative practice.
Having practised meditation since a teenager and always active, Susan was instantly drawn to the blend of the physical and mental that yoga offers. In 2002 she studied her first teacher training in the Sivananda lineage in Uttarkashi, India. Rooted in traditional yoga, as opposed to the contemporary fitness yoga movement, this school offered a good foundation in the philosophy and cultural aspects of yoga. In years that followed she then studied extensively in the Anusara tradition with John Friend and the Krishnamacharya tradition with Gary Kraftsow and Vincent Bolletta. These two lineages offer a depth of knowledge in the asana branch of the practice with particular emphasis on personalising the practice for the individual.
In 2012 after experiencing a major shift in her health attending the Buteyko breathing course in Auckland, she subsequently trained to become a breathing practitioner. Buteyko is a sophisticated breath re-training technique to normalise dysfunctional breathing patterns. This knowledge added depth and understanding to what she had previously learnt through the pranayama yogic practices.
What others said about this Retreat
The retreat was amazing. Suze is such a poised and graceful person and her way of teaching was far superior than anything I’ve encountered before. The yoga and meditation practices were very carefully considered and delivered where they built up slowly over the length of the treat. I would highly recommend the Mana Retreat Centre for all it offers including beautiful food and can’t recommend Suze enough for all invaluable teachings and her generosity in sharing her knowledge and experience. Thank you.

I have just spent four magical days over Queens Birthday weekend at Mana Retreat with Susan and Vincent from Yoga Ground and 19 other gorgeous people. It was a memorable time of challenging but rewarding Yoga, restorative meditation and the superb hospitality, food and incomparable environment that is Mana. Susan and Vincent are the “A” team. These two walk the talk. They helped us all to achieve more in our yoga practise, with expert guidance laced with plenty of fun and humour. I came away from the weekend enriched by the experience and feel that I have come up a notch with my Yoga. The only downside is that it has been really difficult returning to the real world.
