The yoga asana and meditation approach
Participants are required to attend all sessions during the retreat.
The yoga asana practices offered will be suitable for all. Susan has 20 years experience which enables all to feel comfortable to work at their own level. There will be two asana practices per day. One more energetic vinyasa flow and one that will help us explore more our subtle patterns of movement on the body and mind.
The day will also include two meditation sessions, an opportunity for you to either embark on a meditation practice for yourself or to move deeper into your existing practice. Meditation encourages an inner connection and a deepening of relationship with ourselves, within the space of the retreat this is the perfect combination. We will also explore mindfulness practices that connect us with our environment. On the retreat we will explore both directions, the inner and the outer. Deepening our sensitivity to the space with-in and space with-out.
What do others say about the retreat?
“Wow – what a weekend. An amazing chance to re-set in a breathtaking setting. Every aspect of the yoga and meditation was useful, rewarding and practical to follow. The food, the views, nature, laughs and TIME to read books, be still and quiet left me feeling not only energised but re-set for a new pathway in my life – a few degrees can make a massive directional change – ! “(Jools)
“Mana retreat on the Coromandel is a fabulous place for a yoga retreat surrounded by native bush in a tranquil environment. The accommodation is very comfortable and the food spectacular. Over the five days we participated in extensive yoga and meditation workshops which were taught by Susan and Vincent who are very experienced yoga teachers. The group attending the weekend were very supportive and welcoming. I found the weekend to be very educational and rewarding with lots of excellent tools to take home for my home practice.” (Carin)
Introducing
The Teaching Team
Susan Allen
Susan currently runs Yoga Ground, a yoga and meditation studio in Wanaka, NZ.
Susan has been teaching yoga and meditation for the last 20 years. Following a career in Mechanical Engineering Susan came across the practice of yoga while travelling in India in 1999. Like many before her she felt a strong attraction to this transformative practice.
Having practised meditation since a teenager and always active, Susan was instantly drawn to the blend of the physical and mental that yoga offers. In 2002 she studied her first teacher training in the Sivananda lineage in Uttarkashi, India. Rooted in traditional yoga, as opposed to the contemporary fitness yoga movement, this school offered a good foundation in the philosophy and cultural aspects of yoga. In years that followed she then studied extensively in the Anusara tradition with John Friend and the Krishnamacharya tradition with Gary Kraftsow and Vincent Bolletta. These two lineages offer a depth of knowledge in the asana branch of the practice with particular emphasis on personalising the practice for the individual.
Meditation is the foundation of Susan’s yoga practice. The skills learned in meditation create a means for exploring body and breath in yoga asana – developing sensitivity, awareness, and spaciousness in the body. Susan runs Yoga Ground Wanaka on the south pacific island of New Zealand. Yoga Ground offers extensive courses, daily classes, and immersion workshops offered by a wonderful, experienced group of teachers. Susan also runs regular yoga and meditation retreats in NZ and abroad.
