Keep the summer flies away with these natural remedies
Summer is here, and with that can mean hoards of flies entering your home and not leaving until the cold arrives! You’ve cleaned the house, wiped the benches over and over, but they are still hanging around, driving you a bit nuts! Before you give up and try the chemical-heavy sprays, give some of these natural remedies a go.
Apple cider vinegar – Flies and other little bugs like sand flies are attracted to the smell of vinegar. You can trap them by mixing some apple cider vinegar with some liquid soap, place this mixture into a little bowl and place in areas that are attracting lots of flies.
Cloves – Flies hate the smell of cloves. If you don’t hate the smell yourself, then place a bowl of dried cloves wherever you’re experiencing a lot of flies.
Peppermint and lavender essential oils– Try diffusing these two essential oils. Not only is the fragrance amazing, flies apparently hate the smell themselves and will avoid the area. You can also try planting little mint and lavender pot plants around the fly-laden areas.
Basil – Flies hate the smell of basil. Plant some basil leaves around and watch them disappear.
Incense – The smoke of incense scares flies and other pesky bugs away.
