The Song of Silence
Silence, a spiritual practice in itself, enables us to internalise and supports a deeper kind of nourishment. In a silent and meditative environment, the body relaxes, awareness sharpens, and space opens for hidden impressions to release and insights to develop. Silence allows us to slow down and be truly present with our senses and the world around us.
Heromine Lock, a recent participant on the Silent Meditation Retreat, shares with us her reflections and experience .
Sunday (I don’t know what the date is)
Â
I feel restedÂ
so well restedÂ
nourished
connectedÂ
connected with myself and these people around me
it hasn’t been a ‘silent retreat’
for there is noise everywhere
music everywhere
the water singing
birds ringing
bell chimes
trees breath
music in the kitchen
the way people carry themselves gentlyÂ
everything is gentleÂ
the world is peaceful
it waits patientlyÂ
it will wait for you
to come to a place of peaceÂ
Â
Bodies laying in the sun Â
art taking place
thoughts calm
thoughts crazy
thoughts collected
no judgementÂ
Â
Smoke from the chimneyÂ
the constant fresh breezeÂ
mugs of warmthÂ
the fireplace and smell of pine from the forest hanging above
birds, bees, butterfliesÂ
garden grows rapidlyÂ
greens and goodness in those gardens
people existing peacefullyÂ
the world is peacefulÂ
I’m at peace
I hope you are too
Â
I walked the labyrinthÂ
I looked where my feet were
I wondered where it leads to and where I was headingÂ
how long it would take to reach the centreÂ
how many more steps
how much longer of this precious time
then it dawned on my
‘Don’t look too far ahead’-
for if you do, you become worried, you start planning, you take yourself out of this precious present moment…
Perhaps one of the things I’ve learnt in my time at Mana is to ‘Take it one step at a time’…
Perhaps it is best to handle life and life obstacles
‘One step at a time’
