Dining at Mana

Our beautiful, open plan kitchen is the warm, nourishing centre of Mana and the food served to guests is an important aspect of the Mana experience. Our food philosophy is centred around lacto-ovo vegetarianism and we aim to source as many ingredients as we can locally and seasonally. Beyond tasting amazing, it our intention for every meal to be a source of deep nourishment.

It gives us pleasure to share some of our most requested recipes and the philosophy behind our menus. In the process we can respond to the questions most often asked about the food served at Mana. Click the links below to learn more…

Sleeping at Mana

A good night’s rest is essential for well-being; to support your comfort our beds are made up with fresh linen, soft pillows and towels. Some people find ear plugs helpful in shared rooms. On a crisp cool night you will find additional woolen blankets, a small heater and hot water bottles to aid warmth and for those venturing to the sauna or bush bath extra towels are available.

Our modest and comfortable lodges include shared rooms with single beds. Most rooms are twin share and are allocated same sex. We have a limited number of rooms with double beds for couples and a few single beds housed in the main centre building. The photo shows one of our largest rooms with four beds.

"Mana provides such a nurturing environment for rejuvenation; the land, the people, the food, fires and programmes will fill your heart and soul."

Getting here by car

Driving from Thames:

From Thames take Highway 25 toward Coromandel. After about 30 mins on the coast road you will come to Wilson Bay after which the highway turns inland and uphill. After a short dip the road rises again to Manaia Summit and Rest Area. From here proceed 2 klms downhill looking for the sign on the right “Mana Retreat 300m”. Turn right into the drive. (click here to see a detailed map and directions)

Click here to see the entrance off State Highway 25.
(opens a Goggle Map – street view)

If arriving after dark, the drive is marked by a series of red reflectors on stockyard fencing. Passing a side road to the left, continue up the drive to the fishpond and palm. The Centre is on the left and the office is through the double doors. The car park is a few metres beyond the centre. You are welcome to park on the tennis courts.

Getting here by ferry

Downtown Auckland to Coromandel

www.360discovery.co.nz – they run Tuesday, Thursday, Friday departing Auckland & Coromandel & Sunday departing Coromandel – although the sailings are at 8.45am or 6pm – depending on the day – from downtown Auckland & would require you taking a shuttle there – this may be suitable if your flight is an early or later arrival. We can pick you up from the ferry depot & bring you to Mana for a donation of $20-$30. The ferry is cancelled during rough weather, although a bus to replace it is provided. Approx $65 per person.

Return tickets are best booked during the retreat as there are often other participants wishing to carpool.

The ferry arrives into Hannafords Wharf, which is approximately a 15 minute drive from the centre. We offer a service to pick you up from the wharf, and we do this using a sliding scale rate — one way service costs either $20, $25 or $30 per person depending on your budget. Alternatively there is a local cab service that will charge $70 one way.
